2008 Layperson of the Year - Steven Lacey
Steven
Lacey was selected as our Layperson of the Year by the Church Council,
based on the number of nominations he received and the many reasons
cited.
Steve has long history with our
church - having attended Sunday school here as a child. But it was only
about four years ago that he started attending church again, was
baptized and became a very active church member. Here are few things
people wrote in their nominations of Steve:
Steve has served on the Board of
Trustees and the Long Range Planning Committee, and is now Chair of the
Property Trustees. We are certainly blessed to have Steve in our church
family.
We are very fortunate to have many
people who do service for the church. But we feel Steve goes the extra
mile. When he drives by the church and notices a situation that needs
to be addressed, he has no problem finding the means to handle it. From
picking up papers in the yard to getting friends and family to help
shovel snow. If he sees that the grass needs to be cut, he gets the
lawn mower out and cuts the grass.
Steve is a reliable person who takes
it upon himself to initiate follow-through and complete tasks that need
to be done. Steve sees "it" and fixes or takes care of "it" with no
flash or fanfare, oftentimes without the rest of us knowing about his
work or the accomplishment - elevator, plumbing, flooring, roofing,
electrical, carpentry, grounds work, etc. We'll even get him to take a
leadership role in the worship service from time-to-time. "No," or "I
can't" don't appear to be part of his vocabulary, and we are fortunate
for that.
Steve is here all different hours -
night and day; weekdays and weekends. .. He is also our self-appointed
primary dishwasher at Feeding ministry. ...Steve Lacey - the guy with
many hats. And he does it all with a smile!
We honored Steve for his dedicated
service to the Lord and this congregation during the morning worship
service and catered lunch on June 1.
