Layperson of the Year 2013

Mae Upperman has been selected as our Layperson of the Year by the Church Council based on the number of nominations she received and the many reasons cited.  Mae joined our church in 2008 and has been very active since day one. She currently serves on the Diaconate, as Recording Secretary and the Board of Christian Mission.  She also volunteers at the monthly Feeding Ministry, prepares and serves lunches to Habitat for Humanity volunteers, and attends the weekly Bible study. In addition, she just started her second term on the Board for the American Baptist Women’s Ministries of the Judson Association as Coordinator of Personal Development Ministries. Mae also regularly attends the meetings of the ABWM at the association and regional level.

Below are a few excerpts from the nominations that highlight the reason Mae is this year’s honoree:

Above and beyond the call of duty, Mae Upperman is the answer. She’s soft spoken, cooperative, caring, cheerful, willing to go the extra mile, never says No. Mae is a valuable member in our church, she wears many hats – she is a very Christian person.

In addition to other duties, Mae is always willing to be Lay leader and help with Social Committee events. Mae is a generous and kind Christian servant.

Mae Upperman is truly a dedicated Christian. Always cheerful, caring, congenial, helpful, soft-spoken with much knowledge. So happy to have her as a member of the First Baptist Church family.

Mae is loving, kind, gracious and always willing to do any task asked of her.

Mae is the epitome of a Godly woman. She serves on Boards, always is present and working on special work days. She is gentle and kind to all.

Mae wears many hats and is very pleasant to see. Mae never says No. She is always ready to help if you need it.

Mae was honored during the worship service and catered luncheon on June 2.
