Layperson Of The Year 2007
This year we are recognizing a husband and wife team as our Laypersons of the Year – Mark and Dottye Foxon. Many of the nominations cited Mark and Dottye as dedicated members who have worked tirelessly for many years for our church.
Mark’s ingenuity and inventive ideas have inspired us to give towards many projects – regular stewardship campaigns as well as special fundraising ventures. His wit and passion motivate people to give. Most recently Mark headed up the successful Dumpster Days. All who helped were treated with doughnuts, coffee, and Dottye’s famously delicious PB&H (or F) sandwiches and brownies.
We don’t always see Mark and Dottye doing all the things they do “behind the scenes,” but we enjoy the fruit of their labor. Mark spends countless hours in the baking sun working on the church grounds – cleaning, pruning, and planting.
For many years, Dottye has chaired the Scholarship Committee and overseen the awarding of numerous scholarships for church members pursuing higher education. Dottye is author of the Church history book “One Hundred and Seventy Five Years Of The First Baptist Church Of Malden (1803-1978)” published on May, 1979. Dottye is also always willing to host either Christmas parties or summer barbeques at her home for the women’s group. Recently Dottye has been making posters for our front entrance that highlight our monthly activities.
Both Dottye and Mark have served on many boards and committees and are always receptive and ready to help out wherever needed. They have a friendly and welcoming attitude toward everyone. They work well together as a team. We are indeed fortunate to have them in our congregation and we are pleased to honor and recognize them as this year’s Laypersons of the Year!
Plan to join us on Sunday, June 3 as we recognize Mark and Dottye during the morning worship service and at a catered lunch immediately after the service.
