Easter Message 2018

Dear Church Family Members and Friends,

TulipsGod works in mysterious ways!  This truth was reaffirmed for me last week when the Easter letterhead and bulletin covers I ordered months ago were brought out of storage.  After the record-breaking winter we have experienced here in New England, what a refreshing feeling I had when I saw the beautiful spring flowers on the stationery.  I don’t believe I am alone in yearning for many of the things spring represents – warmer temperatures, melting of snow, new young plants pushing their way their way through formerly frozen soil, the greening of grass, and leaves popping from buds on trees.  This physical rebirth in nature will be a welcome sight for many of us in New England this year.

But Easter represents more than just renewal in creation.  Easter provides joy where there has been sadness and hope where there has been despair.  In addition to nature waking up in spring, Easter reminds us that our spiritual lives can also be reawakened and renewed.  This brings to mind the words of Natalie Sleeth:

In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree;

In the cold and snow of winter there’s a spring that waits to be,
Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

There’s a song in every silence, seeking word and melody;
There’s a dawn in every darkness, bringing hope to you and me.
From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery,
Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity;
In our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity,
In our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory,
Unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

Plan to join us in worship this Easter Sunday as we celebrate the empty tomb and the resurrection of Jesus, as we proclaim “Thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:17).

Happy Easter!

Pastor
