Advent is the period of four Sundays and weeks before Christmas day. Advent means ‘Coming’. This is the coming of Jesus into the world. Christians use the four Sundays and weeks of Advent to prepare and remember the real meaning of Christmas. Today, we are lighting the Advent candle One.

Our worship service brings together members and friends of the Maplewood Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of Malden, MA. led by Pastor Gary McClenthen of Maplewood Baptist Church. Over 150 years ago, Maplewood Baptist church was formed by members of the First Baptist Church to hold services in the Maplewood neighborhood of Malden. Due in part to recent transitions experienced by both congregations, we have felt led to try something new by worshiping together each Sunday. We welcome you today as both congregations continue to discern God’s plan for mission and ministry in Malden and our surrounding communities. Recordings of the service are published online, and a Zoom link is available upon request.

Rev. Gary McClenthen’s message is “Real Love”. Scriptures are from 1 John 3:16 and 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. To listen please click the link below:

Financial Pledges for 2023.  On Thanksgiving Sunday, by tradition, we offer our financial pledges to the church for the coming year.  We ask our members and friends to prayerfully consider what they can financially pledge to support the ministry and operating budget of First Baptist Church.  It is through your pledges that we are able to establish our budget for next year.  Enclosed in the mail sent to you, is a pledge card and envelope.  You may either mail your pledge to the Church or present it on Thanksgiving Sunday, November 20, during our worship service. For inquiries, please contact the church office. May God continue to bless and strengthen our church family and yours as well.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Friends,

The Massachusetts Baptist Multicultural Ministries (MBMM) will be celebrating a New Americans’ Christmas Party on December 12th for the newcomers in Lowell.  During the month of September, we at First Baptist Malden will be gathering items that could be included in the gift bags for each family that MBMM serves.

I hope each of us may see if we can help out with a needed item, remembering that we’re shopping mainly for Christmas gifts.  There are other items on the list, which may also be considered for purchase, as newly arrived families usually come with what just a backpack can carry.  See the attachment below for needed items.

It could be lots of fun gathering these items and knowing how much they will be enjoyed.  I’ll see that they get to Lowell.

Sincerely,
Marilyn

Their generosity rendered the Church mortgage – free on the day of dedication on November 24, 1891. The fifth house of worship is where we are worshiping today.  Learn more >

January 4, 2022

Hi everyone:
You/We did it!  Those who were able to hang in through all the changes of the kings in Kings and Chronicles, as well as all the prophets, gospels, letters and Revelation, you have read the entire Bible – in one year!  Congratulations.  For those who got bogged down part way through, you still have the resources to continue.  So what if it takes you a little longer?
Over two dozen people from our church signed up for this ambitious study; about one-half of these participated in the online weekly discussions.  If you were one of those who was not able to participate in this way, but completed the readings on your own, please let me know.
I have enjoyed and appreciated sharing this time with many of you each week.  And I think it is only fitting that our final action together has been reading God’s Word.  Thank you for this opportunity.
For those who were not able to join us online this year, you have received weekly emails with answers to questions pertaining to that week’s readings.  So as we have concluded this study of the Bible, below are the answers to the final set of questions.
Rev Martha Dominy
The Year of the Bible – Week 52 Answers  (Dec 26-31)
