Dear Friends,
SHARING BRINGS JOY
TO US, TO OTHERS, TO GOD
This theme for
the One Great Hour of Sharing Offering reminds me of the Sunday School song
“Jesus, and Others, and You, what a wonderful way to spell JOY!”
JOY-filled
sharing makes possible the well-being of God’s people. JOY-filled sharing shows
that our hearts and hands are open – open to giving that fosters restoration of
shalom – open to generosity that speaks of God’s love.

What
do Stewardship and
Thanksgiving
have
in common? A few hundred years ago, immigrants
to this land from England, thankful
for
surviving their
first year, with the help
of the
natives, held a feast.
Today, we
commemorate that
feast with a holiday called
thanksgiving.

Church Humor
Proverbs 17:22 says, “A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed
spirit dries up the bones." God does have a sense of humor throughout
the scriptures. However, while God appreciates laughter, we must
exercise wisdom and discretion in their use. He does not condone
laughter at the expense of others or laughter over sinful things.
Philippians 4:8 tells us to think on things that are pleasing to the
Lord and to encourage others. Our speech should be edifying, and so, our
humor as well.
