Life Commitment...

How Can You be Saved?

Read: Romans 10:8-13

For "whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." Romans 10:13

Have you ever been asked, "How do I become a Christian?"  these verses give you the beautiful answer-salvation is as close as your own heart and mouth.  People think it must be a complicated process, but it is not.  If you believe in your heart and say with your mouth that Christ is the risen Lord, you will be saved.

You Can't Inherit Salvation

Read: Luke 3:1-18

Produce fruit in keeping with repentance.  And do not begin to say to yourselves, "We have Abraham as our father."  For I tell you that out of these stones God can raise up children for Abraham.  Luke 3:8

In Jesus' day, the religious leaders relied more on their family line than on their faith for their standing with God.  That's why many of John's hearers were shocked when he said that being Abraham's descendants was not enough.  But a relationship with God is not handed down from parents to children.  Everyone has to develop a relationship with God on his or her own.  Don't rely on someone else for your salvation.  Put your faith in Jesus, and then exercise your faith by acting on it every day.

Salvation is a Free Gift

Read: Romans 11:1-6

But if it is by grace, it is no longer on the basis of works, otherwise grace is no longer grace.  Romans 11:6

This great truth can be hard to grasp.  Do you think it's easier for God to love you when you're good?  Do you secretly suspect God chose you because you deserved to be chosen?  Do you think some people's behavior is so bad that God couldn't possibly save them?  If you think this way, you don't entirely understand the Good News-salvation is a free gift.  It cannot be earned, in whole or in part.  It can only be accepted with thankfulness and praise.

Jesus Christ Paid the Price

Read Hebrews 7:24-28; 9:25-26

Consequently He is able for all time to save those who approach God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them  Hebrews 7:25

What does it mean that Jesus is "able for all time to save"?  No one else can add to what Jesus did to save us.  Our past, present, and future sins are all forgiven, and Jesus is with the Father as a sign that our sins are forgiven.  If you are a Christian, remember that Christ has paid the price for your sins once and for all.
