Dear Friends at First Baptist, Malden,
Our church did a marvelous job completing this year’s request for the Overland (inside the U.S.) White Cross, the recipient of which for this year and last year in Massachusetts was the Massachusetts Baptist Multicultural Ministries (MBMM). Now comes the second portion of the White Cross request: that for International Ministries (IM) and their missionaries’ work. There is a new method this year for determining which missionary and/or area of focus will be receiving funding: It is up to the individual church to make that choice. After discussing the options with our church’s American Baptist Women’s Ministries (ABWM) group, it was decided that we would try to help Terry and Tom Myers in Bulgaria. They have come to speak with several of us about their ministry in the past at our church, as well as the Judson and state ABWM meetings.
I include below a summary of their ministry focus as presented by Chris Marziale, our International Ministries liaison. Attached below that is a more extensive “look” at their various areas of ministry.
“IM missionaries Terry and Tom Myers work in ministry with the Baptist Union of Bulgaria. White Cross gifts help provide necessary items such as warm clothes, food, special gifts, hygiene kits and opportunities for education to those in need, especially the Roma (gypsy) people. Helping these families will give them a chance to become self-sufficient and let them know they are valued.”
Our ABWM is challenging the church members to match up to a $200 donation, which our ABWM Board is proposing we give from our treasury for this White Cross request. If you are willing to participate, send a check, made out to the ABWM, to our church office, 493 Main Street, Malden, MA 02148, Attention Sharon Jacobson, with “Bulgaria” in the memo line. I will have envelopes available to take your donations the upcoming two Sundays, April 10 and 17, if you prefer to make a gift that way. Hope you can help.
