Gerald H. Dominy (1925-2020) is the father of Rev. Martha Dominy

Gerald H. Dominy, a lifelong resident of Plattsburgh, N.Y., died on Aug. 27, 2020, at his home. Gerald was born on Oct. 28, 1925, the oldest son of Harry F. and Hazel M. (Stafford) Dominy. Mr. Dominy attended Plattsburgh city schools and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was employed at SUNY/Plattsburgh for 46 years, working his way up from Janitor to Director of Buildings and Grounds.
Gerald was active in the Masons – a member of Northern Light Lodge No. 505 F & AM and Fraternal Lodge No. 155 for a combined 72 years. During those years he served as Master of the Lodge, and Secretary of the Lodge for 30 years. He also served as District Deputy Grand Master of the Clinton District, President and Secretary of Clinton Masonic Charities, and was the recipient of the Wendell K Walker Builder Award. He was a 32nd Degree Member of the Consistory of the Valley of Albany and Troy, N.Y.; and was an active member of several other Masonic affiliations.
Mr. Dominy was also a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Plattsburgh – serving as Deacon, Trustee, Sunday school Teacher, Buildings & Grounds Consultant, and ringer in the Hand Bell Choir. In addition, he was a member of the Gideons International – Clinton County Camp; and the Plattsburgh Rotary Club – serving as President, and was a Paul Harris Fellow.
In his retirement, Gerald volunteered with the Plattsburgh Interfaith Food Shelf.
Gerald was also well known for his annual vegetable gardens at his home.
Survivors include his wife of 72 years, Ruth (Williams) Dominy; Daughters Esther N. of Plattsburgh and Martha A. of Malden, Mass.; Son Allan G. and his wife Joni of Fayetteville, N.Y.; Grandchildren Alexandra G. and Gregory A. Dominy of Fayetteville; brothers Russell O. and Raymond L.; sister-in-law Beverly Dominy of Pennsylvania; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by daughter Laura J. Dominy, granddaughter Victoria R. Dominy, and brothers Ronald S., Harold R. and Malcolm W. Dominy.
A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020, at 11 a.m. in the East Beekmantown Cemetery (Ashley Road). Those wishing to attend are encouraged to follow current health protocols of face covering and social distancing.
The family suggests memorial donations be made to either Hospice of the North Country (358 Tom Miller Rd., Plattsburgh, NY 12901) or the East Beekmantown Cemetery (c/o Helen Bubbins, 49 Pardy Road, Plattsburgh, NY 12901).
