Many of us have read Ecclesiastes 3:1-2: “There is an appointed time for everything. And there is a time for every event under heaven — a time to give birth, and a time to die.” Birth is so happily welcomed but what about death? Today’s message “Looking Death In The Face” is enlightening that one can do well and achieve something before life is over. Here now is the Worship Service:

Prelude: “If Thou But Trust in God to Guide Thee” by Johann Gottfried Walther, arranged by Lani Smith
Call to Worship / Invocation / Lord’s Prayer
Hymn “Savior, Like a Shepherd Lead Us” Words: Attributed to Dorothy A. Thrupp, 1836.
Music: BRADBURY by William B. Bradbury, 1859

Savior, like a shepherd lead us, Much we need Thy tender care;
In Thy pleasant pastures feed us, For our use Thy folds prepare.
Blessèd Jesus, blessèd Jesus! Thou hast bought us, Thine we are.
Blessèd Jesus, blessèd Jesus! Thou hast bought us, Thine we are.

We are Thine, Thou dost befriend us, Be the guardian of our way;
Keep Thy flock, from sin defend us, Seek us when we go astray.
Blessèd Jesus, blessèd Jesus! Hear, O hear us when we pray.
Blessèd Jesus, blessèd Jesus! Hear, O hear us when we pray.

Thou hast promised to receive us, Poor and sinful though we be;
Thou hast mercy to relieve us, Grace to cleanse and power to free.
Blessèd Jesus, blessèd Jesus! Early let us turn to Thee.
Blessèd Jesus, blessèd Jesus! Early let us turn to Thee.

Early let us seek Thy favor, Early let us do Thy will;
Blessèd Lord and only Savior, With Thy love our bosoms fill.
Blessèd Jesus, blessèd Jesus! Thou hast loved us, love us still.
Blessèd Jesus, blessèd Jesus! Thou hast loved us, love us still.

Scripture Philippians 1:21-30
Sermon: “Looking Death In The Face” Rev. Martha A. Dominy
Prayer
Hymn: “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” Words: Joseph M. Scriven, 1855.
Music: ERIE by Charles C. Converse, 1868

What a friend we have in Jesus, All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry, Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit, O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry, Everything to God in prayer.

Have we trials and temptations? Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged; Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful, Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness; Take it to the Lord in prayer.

Are we weak and heavy laden, Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge, Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Do your friends despise, forsake you? Take it to the Lord in prayer!
In His arms He’ll take and shield you; You will find a solace there.

Benediction
