Helen Esther Finch, 78, a  longtime resident of Malden, passed away on  Wednesday, December 8, 2010 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was born  1932 in Boston, the daughter of Richard and Ella (Bruce) Strang. She was raised and educated in Malden. After graduating from Malden High with the class of 1950, she attended the Katherine Gibbs School in Boston.  She then took employment with the MDC at Stone Zoo as a secretary.

In 1955, she married her sweetheart, William Finch.  Soon after, Helen left her job with the zoo to raise her children.  She was active with the Girl Scouts when her daughter Ellen was in the troop.  She was also a member and past Chaplain for the Rainbow Girls, a Masonic women’s order.

Helen, along with her husband Bill, were both very active members of the First Baptist Church of Malden.  She served in the Diaconate, sings in the choir, and taught Sunday school for many years.  She enjoyed crocheting pieces and making Christmas ornaments for the church fair, and preparing food for their regular “bean suppers”.

She is survived by her children,  Ellen Mokler  of Kennebunk, ME, and, Richard Finch  of Malden, and her grandchildren, Samuel Mokler, Emily  Mokler, Ryan Finch, and Kyle Finch.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband William, and her parents, Richard and Ella (Bruce) Strang.

Funeral services was held at the First Baptist Church of Malden, 493 Main Street, Malden, on Sat, Dec 11th, at 10:00 A.M.  Visitation was held at the Weir MacCuish Golden Rule Funeral Home, 144 Salem Street, Malden, on Fri, Dec 10th, from 4 – 8 PM.
