Louis Catucci of Malden passed away on Saturday, May 9, 2009 at home surrounded by his loved ones. He is 86 years old.  Louis was born on May 20, 1923 in Montreal, Canada. The son of the late Pasquale and Chiara (Pietrinferno) Catucci. Louis was raised and educated in Montreal.

Louis joined the Canadian army during World war II and served in North Africa and Italy. His fluency in Italian, French, and English was a great asset to the army.  During the war, he met his future bride, Libia Gaeta  They were married on February 8, 1947 in Italy. They soon moved to Canada and eventually immigrated to the U.S., residing in Boston’s North End.  In 1959, they moved to Malden, MA. to raise their family.  Louis and Libia enjoyed 43 years together.

From a young age, Louis was always busy working numerous jobs and helping others whenever he could. He was a precision machinist at Schraffts Candy Company for many years and also worked as maintenance staff of First Baptist Church of Malden.

Louis was an excellent ice skater, and was once scouted by the Montreal Canadiens.  He enjoyed his large garden and grape arbor, and made his own wine.  He also enjoyed taking his sons hunting and fishing.  Louis was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Malden working as church custodian and singing in the choir on Sunday worship services for many years.

Louis is survived by his children Pasquale (Lino), John and his wife Pattie, Virginia Szmyt, Louis and his wife Darcy; daughter-in-law Brenda Catucci, and son-in-law Ronald Szmyt; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; his sisters Elsie (Shoffey) Mendolia, Mary DiMassimo and Gilda Reynolds; ;many nieces and nephews; and his loving companion Marilyn Glover.  He was predeceased by his parents and sisters Madeleine DiLauro, Helen Trubiano, and Alice Fiorilli.

The family has requested that donations in Louis’s memory be made to First Baptist Church, 493 Main Street, Malden, MA. 02148. Arrangements have been provided by the A.J. Spadafora Funeral Home, 865 Main Street in Malden, MA.
