Paul E. Patrie, of Malden, passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2021. Beloved husband of Linda (Lockhart) Patrie. Loving father of Matthew Patrie of Woburn, Megan LoPilato and her husband Derek of Malden and Allyson Patrie-Juraudo and her husband Alvaro of Saugus. Cherished grandfather of Cameron, Ava and Ryan. Dear brother of Janet Lanni and her husband Jack of Malden, Judy Berry of Malden and the late Robert Patrie and George Patrie Jr. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Paul has been a resident of Malden for most of his life. He is a graduate of Immaculate Conception Grammar School, Malden Catholic High School and Boston State College.

He worked as an Insurance Underwriter for the John Hancock Insurance Company and the Savings Bank Life Insurance Company respectively for many years. When his children were young, Paul volunteered his time as a Malden Little League Coach and a Malden Youth Soccer Coach. He was one of the founders of Malden Youth Soccer.

First and foremost, he was dedicated to his wife, to his children and to his grandchildren. Fresh water fishing was one of his favorite hobbies. He also enjoyed travel, listening to his favorite music and cheering for all of the Boston sports teams, especially the New England Patriots.

Paul was selected Layperson of the Year by First Baptist Church of Malden, MA. Church Council on June, 2010. Based on the number of nominations he received and the many reasons cited, the selection was accepted by the church membership.  Paul has been a member of First Baptist Church of Malden, MA. for 32 years and has served in numerous leadership positions.  In 2010 to 2011, he was the church moderator whose job is to preside in the congregational and council meetings. He was chairman of the Trustees and the Diaconate for many years and taught Sunday school.  Paul was one of the first person most visitors meet on Sunday morning, as he also served as one of the ushers.  These are several of the visible roles Paul plays, but there are numerous less noticeable tasks Paul quietly undertook to make First Baptist a warm and friendly place to worship, learn and serve.

A few excerpts from the nominations highlight the reason Paul was chosen honoree in 2010: “My first Sunday at First Baptist, Paul greeted me and I introduced myself. The following Sunday morning, Paul greeted me by name.  I was impressed and felt welcomed because Paul had remembered my name.  If I have questions and need help with anything I consider Paul the “go to guy.”

He “da man” – Paul Patrie.  Always ready to give a helping hand and fulfilling his duties (and more) that he has been assigned.  He truly personifies what Jesus tells his disciples: “Go forth – preach the gospel – feed my sheep!”

“We are very fortunate to have many people who do service for the church. But we feel Paul goes the extra mile.  From assisting Pastor Martha with communion to shoveling snow.”  “There are many other jobs that Paul handles without any notice.  We feel that Paul’s caring about the welfare of our church is surpassed by no one.”

“Paul is the first person you meet when you arrive at Sunday worship.  He is friendly, helpful, kind, and cheerful.”  “Paul has many hats to wear, he serves on several committees.  Paul is the Pastor’s right-hand-man – asked to do any task, he is there.”
